DOT Europe has issued a statement on the proposals for a Digital Fairness Act. We share the goal of protecting consumers online and ensuring digital markets are fair, transparent and trustworthy.
At the same time, any new rules should be designed to complement Europe’s already-substantial consumer-protection framework, rather than duplicate or contradict it.
Europe has comprehensive consumer rules already in place, from the consumer-rights and unfair-commercial-practices directives to the Digital Services Act. The priority should be enforcing and clarifying these before adding new layers.
Where genuine gaps exist, we support targeted, evidence-based action. Clear definitions and proportionate obligations give consumers stronger protection and give businesses the certainty they need to comply.
Consumers deserve strong, coherent protection online. The best way to deliver it is to build on what already works, with evidence guiding any new rules.
DOT Europe statement
DOT Europe stands ready to work with the Commission and co-legislators to ensure the Digital Fairness Act is coherent, proportionate and genuinely good for European consumers.
