Under the Digital Services Act and the rules that surround it, DOT Europe supports an approach that keeps people safe online while protecting their fundamental rights.
The Digital Services Act sets a landmark framework for tackling illegal content, increasing transparency, and strengthening online safety across Europe. As implementation continues, DOT Europe supports a proportionate, risk-based approach that delivers meaningful protection while preserving the openness and benefits of the internet.
DOT Europe members continue to invest significantly in safety-by-design measures, including age-appropriate experiences, parental controls, content moderation, reporting tools, and default protections for younger users. These investments are constantly evolving alongside emerging risks and technologies.
At the same time, effective child protection requires a clear legal framework. Following the expiry of the temporary ePrivacy derogation, providers currently face legal uncertainty when voluntarily detecting and reporting child sexual abuse material. Restoring a workable legal basis for these efforts remains essential to protecting children online.
