Brussels, 10 April 2026 – DOT Europe has joined a broad coalition of industry associations in a joint statement calling on EU co-legislators to reach a swift agreement on the AI Omnibus, with simplification at its core.
We welcome the alignment between the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on fixed compliance deadlines for high-risk AI systems, as well as the Parliament’s position on Annex I. However, targeted adjustments are still needed to ensure the framework genuinely supports innovation in Europe.
On generative AI labelling: The grace period should be extended to a realistic 12 months and cover new AI systems placed on the market after 2 August 2026. Without this, unclear obligations risk creating legal uncertainty and delaying product releases.
On registration requirements: Non-high-risk AI systems should be exempt from registration in the EU database, in line with the Commission’s original proposal. This would reduce disproportionate compliance burdens while preserving the AI Act’s risk-based approach.
The AI Omnibus is an important opportunity to demonstrate that Europe can be both a leader in trustworthy AI and a competitive destination for AI innovation. We urge co-legislators to seize it.
